Why the game is designed this way
- No daily rewards, login streaks or countdowns that pull you back at a set hour.
- Points are only a score. They cannot be bought, sold, sent or exchanged for anything.
- No adverts inside the board and no pop-ups asking you to keep playing.
- Your board saves after every move, so stopping mid-game costs nothing.
Set a box before you start
Decide the size of the break first: one game, or ten minutes. A single 9K Merge game usually takes a few minutes. When the box is full, close the tab; the board will wait. Phone tools help here too: Digital Wellbeing on Android and Screen Time on iPhone can set a daily limit for your browser or for the home screen icon.
Signs it is time to pause
- You keep pressing New game straight after a loss to "win it back".
- Play is cutting into sleep, meals, study or work.
- You feel irritable when you cannot play, or play to avoid something else.
- You have lost track of time more than once in a week.
None of these mean anything is wrong with you. They are cues to step away for a day and see how it feels.
Good breaks between games
Stand up, look at something far away for twenty seconds, drink some water. Your eyes and neck will thank you, and the next board will look clearer. Late at night, turn the screen brightness down or switch on the night light setting.
Young players
9K Merge has no chat, no accounts and no purchases, so it is safe to hand to a child for a few minutes. The same rule applies: agree a time limit first, and use your phone's parental settings if you share the device.
If you need to talk to someone
If screen time is affecting your mood, sleep or relationships, free and confidential help is available in India through Tele-MANAS, the national mental health helpline: call 14416 or 1-800-891-4416, any time of day, in many Indian languages. Talking to a family member, friend or doctor is also a strong first step.
Questions about how the game works are answered on How to Play. Anything else, write to the 9K Club help desk.
